Forgive me. I am lost in Queryland.
During my afternoon quests for the perfect shiny agent…my girls have been watching Barbie Fairytopia Mermaidia (still with me?). I get why this movie is so popular with them…
It constantly repeats.
So while I’m reading submission guidelines and agent wishlists (and hoping an agent loves JACK as much as I do), somewhere in the background I hear “This is the immunity berry!” The evil witch complains that it’s not the right berry. The original character chooses another one and says again in a ridiculously addicting British accent, “The immunity berry!” nope. “The immunity berry!” Now both girls are repeating the line over and over.
I look over and say, “The immunity query!” They giggle and say “No, mummy. Berry.“
They’re right. There’s no immunity query. Dangit.
And while I am absolutely good with being the Tortoise in this race (even if it sometimes seems like I’ve got some Hare in me after all), sometimes I’d like to be the Fireball. The Crazy Fireball that burns past the Tortoise and the Hare. Don’t leave the Fireball out of the fable, you know?
What are you working on? Would a Fireball help or hinder?

Well, I have a soft spot for the Tortoise. And let me just say this – my two tortoises can hustle when they want to.
(Of course, there’s usually a favorite food of theirs involved…hmm, much the same thing happens with me and chocolate…)
Madeline, at first I was like ‘whaaaaaat?’ and then I remembered you have actual Tortoises in your life! haha! Now I’m like ‘her tortoises can hustle? awesome. definitely could be satisfied with being a hustling tortoise.’
Really the tortoise and the hare is all about perspective, right? To most, we look like hares, but to us, we feel like tortoises.
Kristan, you’re like my wise friend that I remember I should have listened to but didn’t because I thought I was right and now I’m back to being humble and trying not to impress anyone with my mistaken wisdom. you know?
I’d prefer a fairy godmother.
That could work too. Or just some sort of fairy that whispers in the ears of agents.
May the best agent for you fall madly in love with your story and snap you up quick like a bunny/hare.
Love,
Lola
Thanks, Lola! I think secretly I was looking for some encouragement. I just need to get beyond “good concept, but not for me” phase. Will persevere!
An immunity query….that sounds magical! *sigh* But if you ever need help with your query you know you can always send it my way! And if it’s already perfected then all you can do is search out those agents you think will fall in love! And hope for the best…I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you!
*sighs with you* Thanks so much for your offer of help!! The query is doing it’s job, which is an awesome feeling–getting in the door. And yes, I will keep waiting…and searching some more. xx
Fireballs are overrated. Terrible mileage, no air conditioning, and a nightmare to insure.
Okay, okay. I know Fireball is folly. Just throwing it out there.
Lost or blazing a trail? Fireballs tend to mark the trail for others to follow. Like agents for instance.
Just saying.
What a query wand? One whoosh – query done. Another whoosh – agents love it and ask for more.
You know I’m addicted to sharing music videos now right? But it’s a good addiction.
Hey, you should write children tales
Fairy godmother? I want a house cleaning fairy…and a cooking fairy and….
