What in the world (wide web)?

Everything is getting refreshed and updated lately:  Facebook (though I have left this far behind and haven’t regretted it), Pandora, and now WordPress!  Wahey!

I know this upsets a lot of people, getting used to something new, etc.  I guess I’m just a different breed of different because I could give a rat’s arse about it.  Fine.  Change it.  I’ll adapt.  My life goes on.  I think the day that it DOES matter to me is the day that I know I’ve been completely sucked into the lie that is the internet.

Now, I’m not saying I don’t love it too.  I love blogs, email, twitter, YOU.  I love your books, writing, perspective, pictures, designs, words, warm buzzy feeling in my fingers as I type comments to you.  And I’d miss you if you were gone.  But I’d still make up worlds in my mind, find scraps to scribble on.  Send you mindvibes instead of electrovibes.

I’d sing you songs like this and be deluded enough to think you could hear me.

People definitely overreact to change… But sometimes changes are UGLY, or STUPID, and that makes me sad. :P

So true. Things change constantly. We just have to adapt.

Yeah, I’ve noticed the big hoo-hah about Facebook – am not on it, so doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I suppose my attitude is, if it worries you that much, don’t use it.

I hadn’t heard about changes to WordPress though. I’ve been thinking about switching from blogger for a short while, but then I end up wondering if it’s worth the time and effort (plus WordPress looks a bit more complicated!). I agree we spend too long obsessing about the internet (she said, while obsessing about the internet).

    • It’s crazy that they deem it worthy for report on the network evening news channels. Brian Williams must be thinking, “I have to report THIS?” Okay, it’s a big part of a lot of our lives, but will it end us? Nope. (and I like your attitude!)

Let’s talk WordPress. I just love it. The changes are mostly dashboard stuff (still easy to find everything) and the biggest thing, I think, is they’re trying to correct the issue of “followers.” WordPress does not support the Followers widget so they’ve added this little gray tab to their pages for readers to click on. Not the same, but nice try.

I also use Blogger for We Heart YA, the site that I co-founded with my critique partners. Blogger’s not for me…seems hard to post pictures, like you have to write the text first then drag the image where you want it. It makes me kind of cranky. Still, they both get the job done. I’ve found which one works best for me. I think you’d have to have a good reason to switch from one to the other.

      Thanks for commenting!

  4. If you’ve ever see the show “Monk,” there’s a line Monk says that goes something like this – “I don’t mind change…as long as it doesn’t happen to me.” :)

  5. That’s incredibly clever! (and just might be true). I like you Tortoise keeper. You can stay. :)

  6. I don’t care what Facebook does and I don’t Twitter. God….do we really have to do that to be recognized as the geniues we are? We are all deluded and I wonder how many people anymore can carry on a face-to-face interesting conversation at a cocktail party? Well….I can and I bet you can!

    • Did you just call me a genius? Okay, you can stay too. :) p.s. party at Yvonne’s house!

(seriously, though. I need real people to keep the balance. I can’t imagine the internet being everything…and we’re not the only ones).

There is nothing but change in the world, our only destiny!
