Believe the hype

DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE by Laini Taylor was released this week, and if you’re looking for something fantastical and weird in all the right ways, then get thee to an Indie (bookstore, that is).  I almost groaned when I discovered the Angel and the Demon had instant chemistry (which is so trendy in YA) but Laini Taylor twists this story into something much more satisfying–self-discovery.  Nicely played.  It has stirred my creativity (and it needed stirring).  I Haven’t stopped thinking about the vivid characters and scenery, which really are my favourite bits of a story.

Also, THE NEAR WITCH by Victoria Schwab was absolutely delightful to read.  I do believe my favourite YA guy (besides Gilbert Blythe) is Cole–I don’t even know his real name!  That’s a feat, my friends.  There’s stuff about this story that reminds me of THE GRAVEYARD BOOK by Neil Gaiman, CHIME by Franny Billingsley (have yet to read a book that tops this one,) and yet it’s strongly on its own.

And just want to gloat that I’m going to see MASON JENNINGS tonight, an early birthday present from my dirty-hippy-feet friends.  You can get a FREE song by him on Amazon if you fancy…

Wow, lucky you, enjoy the concert tonight. I’ve enjoyed the song in the Post myself. Thanks for your songs.

  2. I finally finally got my hands on Laini Taylor’s Lips Touch, and it is everything I knew it would be. I’ll definitely be following it up with Daughter of Smoke and Bone. The lady can *write*, and she’s so creative. Enjoy the concert!

    • LIPS TOUCH is just so good. So glad I have a copy of that book, beloved on my shelf. I read an ARC for DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE and now I have to get my own copy. It’s my manual for world-building right now. :)

  3. More books for my must read list. I think I’ll have to start buying instead of getting them at the library. The request list for some is never ending (it seems) or they are not available in the library. so I have to decide food or books? Hmm…lol not really. Have a great time at the concert. :)

I’m just starting Chime, then it’ll be on to DoSaB. (And then Near Witch, if I can snag it from you. :P Oh how I wish I read as quickly as you do…)

    Enjoy the concert!

    • Oh, I’m so excited to talk to you about CHIME. I hope I haven’t hyped it up too much for you. AND after reading DoSaB, you should be flying through your writing all charged up on good stories.

  5. Thanks for the book links!

enjoy your concert!! And happy birthday!

Those both sound great. I’ve been hearing more and more buzz about them…maybe it’s time I put them on my TBR list. Thanks!

  7. I know, I tend to shy away from book hype until it’s died down a little bit. Definitely put them on your list! I think DoSaB has now received 4, starred reviews. crazy good!
