New Shoes

Happy Monday!  I know traditionally people groan when a new week starts, but…

…come dance with me in your new shoes.  It’s not that bad.

What IS bad is that I’ve been hiding for two weeks.  Okay, I’ve been trying to be creative, but STRESS is the anti-write.  And when I’m not writing, I’m not usually blogging either.  :(

I’ve tried not to get worked up about querying, and waiting to find out if a publishing professional will “get” my writing, and if they think they can sell it.  At present, I have three full requests, and one partial out on my manuscript.  GO JACK!  The more I query, the easier it gets.  And I don’t hate it.  I am seriously looking forward to the next stage, even though it means more WAITING.  I can wait.

This is the path I have chosen with traditional publishing.  While I think it is a good idea for established writers-and other writers who have good editors-to publish e-books, (Talli Roland used a traditional publisher for her first two books, and is now releasing her third through Amazon–which make up the bulk of her sales anyway), I have always wanted to see my book on a shelf in Barnes & Noble.  First.  I might come around to ebooks one day.

While I’ve been waiting, I’ve been reading.  And I’ve been living the autumn life.  Wow is it GORGEOUS out there!  Yellow, orange, fire-red.  Warm days, cool nights.  It’s so much that I can’t even break out the poetic musings.

Maybe later.  Because I’ve finally managed to get creative again.  I’m loving the writing of my new project.  It’s a treat (as it should be, right?)

And you?  Is your writing a trick or a treat?  I’ll be around your blogs soon.  Peace.

  1. Fingers crossed for the JACK requests! :)

I hear you about feeling stalled creatively. Sometimes you just need a bit of a break to get back on track again.

    • Thanks! One declined today. But I’ve given myself two hours to wallow, scuff the dirt with my converse, and now I’m back on the wagon.

And, yes, allowing yourself a break now and again is crucial to getting back on track.

  2. Go Jack Go!!!
Rest periods are good for recharging and the fall time is the best time for that – in my opinion.
I’ve been having tricks and treats with my creative flow lately. The current project has tricked me onto a different plot weaving but it turned out to be a treat because it works so much better than before. :)

Hopefully there’s still B&N around for your book to be shelved at… :P

I too am LOVING this autumn world. Hopefully it lights up my creativity the way it’s lighting up the trees!

It should always be a treat. I imagine that if one writes just out of duty, the professionalism shows, and that is like a brochure of something just with Buy Buy Buy printed all over.

    • yes, I agree. the artistry is so important. and writing has to be a treat or, as you say, it will show itself and won’t be enjoyable for the reader. my deadlines/expectations are my own right now so all practice is working towards something. faking the professionalism till I make it!

Hi, Sarah. I just found your blog through Kristan’s and wanted to wish you the very best of luck with the full/partial requests. It’s such a nerve-wracking time, waiting to hear back, but here’s hoping the querying roller-coaster brings nothing but great news :D

    • Hi Shari! Thanks for stopping by, and for the luck! Yep, it’s a roller coaster alright. It’s the waiting that is hardest, though. So hard not to obsess about my email. I’m going to head over and check out your site. xx
